Hi Helaine and Carol. I am Shelley's cousin, Faith and we are in the Ragdolls photo together (see earlier photos on blog). I remember you and the Kingsley girls really well since we all lived in Queens back then. Judy has said it would be great if we could get all the girls in the photo to the reunion and so far, it looks like we are suceeding. It will be great to catch up with you guys! You sound like you are doing well. I'm in Manhattan so if you ever make it to the city, give me a call. I'll leave it to Larry or Mitch to give you my phone number, tell you about navigating this site and more about the reunion. Talk to you soon.

Caryn--I spoke to Gail a few times in the last few days and will see her in May as we're going to Vegas for my step-daughter's wedding. She told me a little bit about you last week. How are you?? Let's get together if you're here in the city? I'll call Larry to get your number.

To Ingrid--the words to Strike Up the Band are all over this blog, on almost every chain!! My husband is even singing the words to this song and he doesn't even know what a bungalow colony is!

Gimme a Sugar Daddy now and it will last me a week.

FYI - all you candy lovers, The expression "melt in your mouth not in your hand" has some meaning. Cocoa butter the main ingredient of chocolate melts best at 95 degrees, the rest is history. (another useless tid bit of information)

Jodi , I hope we are amusing our parents . Why not , they can use all they can get . LOL

And anyway "The friends we made we won't forget and Dad we thank you for what you spent" Thats how it goes, right?

I'm still not sure who enjoyed the summers , our fathers or us

We all enjoyed it (Parents & Kids)

By the way, Jodi told me today that there are many parents who are actively monitoring the blog...but will not post...they are there as observers...I guess they just want us "kids" to enjoy it....c'mon we now know you are out there...Stand up & be counted

What would our fathers have done without playing cards?

  • At 3/29/2006 5:24 AM , Blogger Mitch said...

    Steve...
Now that's an interesting thought.( not playing cards ) Manny, Seymour, Harold, & Joe playing golf (I think not!) If they ever tried to do that they never would never have gotten off the 1st tee. But could you imagine the laughing that would resonate around the course with those 4?

    Nona...

Not only am I still laughing about the honeymooners episode playing golf...yes Mindy indeed "hello ball"...But I think Dad might have had those same pants Jackie Gleason wore in that episode...

    Jodi,
I care... And I'm not sure if others do, but I find it a bit ironic that one of the few responses directed twords me was an insult. I'm not sure if you intended it to be that way or not... But read what you wrote... it sure seems that way. I hope your 40th & 50th were a blast!
So, can anyone tell me if my memories of that picture matched the names I listed?

    Jodi,
In response to your question about the swimming hole and the area. I've left Makowsky's after 1968, then returned with my kids in 1980. We have been to Makowsky's every summer since then. The swimming hole is just the same, ice cold water even on the hottest day. After a rain, the waterfall is the most beautiful. There are more people swimming during the hot days. I always come up in October to get the best apples in the world at the Jenkins-Leukins orchard in New Paltz. We always go to the swimming hole to see the leaves with the fall colors floating on the water. It's amazing! By the way, our area is NOT orthodox jewish. In fact the Eleneville, to Monticello to Loch Sheldrake area is, and that's why my family left that area and came to Makowsky's in 1966.
Every Sunday during the summer and the fall there is a little flee market and antique sale across the road from the Waterfalls in High Falls. It's really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

    Hi Liz,
Ya know I was going to put either you or your bro... but since I had my group pic in front of me, From 74 & The Hair, I thought it was you. I cant remember Bruce's last name, but I think he had a younger brother named darrin and had the last bungalow closest to my uncle's house on the hill across from the edlers.
    Alison,
I was'nt sure if that was Karen or not, I just took a guess at that one. Does any on know who she was? By the way, Ask Meri if she knows who the other two girls are in the 74 group pic. I know Ingrid & Jodi but dont remember the other two... I think one's name was Tami?

    Well hello Mr. Gold,
I saw your mom & sis last year at the colony... It has been a long time. The last time I saw you was when my parents & I came to your house (I think it was in Jeresy)& we went down to a ballfield that was there and hit a hardball around. Do you remember that? Tratcor rides, softball, kickball, dodgeball, hiking,
Sadie Hakins day, the merry go round, the sandboxes, Fishing at the lake, Back porch of the lunchonette, King Arthur's Court, the graveyard of cars, the trail to the swimming hole through the thick brush ( Which now has a log cabin & horse stable),playing against other colonies, Maltzies & Sundance. The Ba-Ha trail that lead to Accord that I thought would never end. Frank Purcells general store with the old gas pump across the street. Would go in with a dollar and walk out with goodies to last a week.... Who am i kidding ,look at the size of me...Ok, ok... would last about the time it took to get back to the colony. The Ice cream breaks at the lunchonette. Arts & crafts in the camp house... Lanyard, Ice cream sticks used to make houses, & boxes & so much more. wicker, finger painting, catching frogs, , barnyard fires, cropsey, The Cliff, driving our bikes down rock hill road & praying that we would see a car going back to Makowsky's that would give us a ride. I can go on & on & on... But I'll leave this to start. You've been kicked my friend. Are you going to the Reunion?
