This photograph is priceless. I can still remember that cold crystal clear water. What a memory?

Naked.......? The water was freezing , even in the heat of summer. Hey does anyone know how deep the water was. It was crystal clear. The rocks were covered with this mossy fuzzy stuff, i slipped on my butt in the water many times.

Jackie, how does an old Bagel Baker work those stubby fingers on a PC, took me about 15 years to lose the calluses
PS your Dad's Bronx bagels were almost as good as my dad's brooklyn ones.
Every year those hikes past the haunted houses and through the woods were great, and then thos nickle fudgecicles, mission soda or orange crush and the super cold water

Susie, It was the house right by the bridge. Jackie, I haven't thought about that in years. I was always "pissed" because I was too young to try to go inside to see if it was real.

Roy, I haven't seen a salamander in years. I think your brother caught them all.

You're right Steve , Gary always had a bucket filled with them & other stuff.

Listen you Yankees up there, we have friggin' tons of lizards all over down here. They get into everything. They are brown and fast as hell . Give me a orange salamder anyday. (I can't believe I'm writing about this)

Bobby , Purcell was definitely ethnicly challenged but he liked all the 'green' it brought in. $$$ (what about the Maples people...)

Hey since we have New York's finest Bagle Afficianados here , let me ask you this ..How do you REALLY get the hole in the Bagle ? LOL

Oboy , 2 cups of coffee and I'm rolling people. Don't get me started. I can do this for hrs. OK one more.. When Roy E was life guard , some how a snake from the lake came onto the lawn next to the Pool. People at the pool got nuts (all these city folk , probably never saw a snake except at Bronx zoo)Roy did'nt know what to do , he was more lost than the snake. I think he used a shuffleboard pole, I'm not sure what happened after. If you're out there Roy E ...back me up , Dude.

I once walked to New Paltz with Steve Rudnick and Jeff Keller to buy several pints of wine. I think it was Thunderbird or Boone's farm . Not a pretty sight that Saturday evening.
I went 0 for 4 at the Sunday mens softball game, made 2 errors also.. Dave kept asking me what the F... is the matter with me!

Steve is that dirty enough ? , I have more. (well la-di-da!!)

    What was the Union called:

BBB- Bagel Bakers of Brooklyn (Bronx)
I heard they made a lot of Dough (badda bing)

You'd think that after all these years and all the transplanted NY'ers someone in Florida would learn how to make a decent Bagel. Also , if you ask for a bakers dozen down here, they look at you like your mad.

Florida , although it's my home, is like a breakfast cereal: filled with fruits , nuts and flakes.

Sandy emailed me today with some news. Since she cannot post on the blog, she wanted me to pass on some information.
Purcell from Alligerville is no longer with us, he passed away last year. The old swimming hole is still used by many people. Some even go there to take their daily bath & wash their hair. They tried to dam it up but were unable to do it successfully. Some of the present Makowsky people still walk through the woods to get there but most of the land is is sold out so they have to take the long way around. The general store is no longer around and the new one Purcell built is not being used. Anyone want to buy ? There are many new homes for sale up on the hill. One went for over a million dollars last year. It is located just when you come up by the second hill. Pauline's old house down the road which was Frieda's house is now a horse farm coral and barn...it is a beauty. The rest of the hill is all built up. The back woods is still there untouched and preserved, especially King Arthur's Court. Behind that used to be an old bungalow colony...where you used to go see the sunset. Well, that is gone as well but there are some beautiful homes in its place.

Time marches on...and the new owners took title this week and are busy sprucing up the place and getting it ready for the summer.

Sandy wants to say she cannot wait to see us all in July.

Mitch , do we call all these changes progress ? I think not , Everything changes except our perception of how we remember it. Thats why we are all here right?

    Susie....

I am recalling "High Mountain Lodge" & also "Lee-Ra"...Does that ring a bell?...I do remember the corn fields also.

This nostalgic trip is better than Ginko Balboa

Behind Kings Arthurs Court was Villa Algarin. We used to think that Cuban folk came up there for the weekends to "party".

The Lee-Ra bungalows have been re-done and are now rented out as a Bed and Breakfast. High Mountain Lodge fell down years ago and there are a few houses on that property.

Does anyone remember Eugene Krell? He was a hoodlum type and had Krell Colony down the road. They were the pink bungalows in a small colony. They're still there but they are also falling doen.

    Lizzie

I'm so happy you have "come out" to us. I know, you probably got alot of "heat from Shari.

Roy's comments about your dad's sense of humor reminded me of a funny story. I think your dad was recovering in the hospital and the nurse was tending to him and propping his pillows and so forth when she said, "Are you comfortable Mr. Streeter ? " And Joe looked up and said in his own way with that wry smile...."I make a living."

    Can't wait to see you.

Nona , You are so right. The tree crowd was more like 'parenting by committee'. I guess you can call it communal living . The 1st hippies ! Our own upstate kibbutz. Tough enough being raised by 1 Jewish mother let alone 8 more. They were all great.

Hey Liz,,,hooray..Here's a good Joe story..We were driving I think on Utica ave , all of a sudden your Dad pulls along side us with all of you in the car. Your Dad sticks his head out the window waving this bra in the air while driving and yelled out to my Mom " Ruthie, here's your Brasseire back " Well he basically stopped traffic. Turns out my mother had lent your Mom a bra for a wedding or something the night before. They both turned different shades of red, my father was hysterical laughing.
