Too bad there aren't photos of past Lifeguards. I remember Gary Hutt , Mitch , Steve Rudnick , Barry __? , Randy___? , I know there were others but I forgot their names. This was a thankless job . All the cleaning , chemicals and that pump house , man o man.

Whenever it rained frogs would get into the pool . Was it true that lake water was used to fill the pool?

I think I was the lifeguard in '68 or '69 and I thought it was going to be so cool....lying around, sunning, twirling my whistle on a lanyard that Steph or Nona made me...but was I wrong. I remember Milton gave me a crash course in acidity, chemicals etc. I think I turned that pool a limey green color after 2 days. Man was Milton mad at me... but it was all good....after I proved to him I knew what I was doing he forgave me...that was Milton.

No rumor... The truth! If you ever fished off the bridge, you may remember two pipes about 10-15 feet out running parallel with the bridge. That was the lead draw line to the pump room. The water was drawn into one large container where it was filtered, then into another container where it was mixed with the chemicals & pumped into the pool. That is why when we had a dry summer the lake receded back off the island.

Mindy, How did you get to Holland and how is Mike doing, last time i saw him was when I walked into his candy store on Sheapshead Rd and Emmons Ave. I love Holland and still haven't recovered from my 2 weeks there in summer of 73 ,the only summer vacation that I enjoyed as much as Makowskys

What a classic photo! Jerry Cohen was easy to spot! I went to the big M from 1969-1976 and visited for years after that. Those were the best summers! When night hit, the fun began! I remember driving Greg Brown's Corvair up and down Rock Hill Road, hitting Maltz' store for the dollar six pack and hanging at the pool or the deck of the luncheonette. It was true that the lake water supplied the pool. There was one summer it rained so much (72) that you could not get across the bridge to fool around there. There was White Rock, King Arthur's Court and a few other spots one could hang to do "stuff" away from the prying eyes of the parents.

The Big M still packs them in. last time I was there, it looked like Moscow.

I have lots of pictures. One I love is with Jerry, Rich Keller and Ira in front of Jerry's bungalow. It was the "Wild One" go cart. Also remember when Jerry got his license and we drove that blue Volare all over to get beer, cigs and a Chez Joey once and a while.

It is true that Janet moved to Canada after her second marriage. That was the early 80's. She was the last camp director after the late Norman Koch.

How can one post pics? I have many including the corn in the can party, the pool and many others.

BTW Rob..The first time I ever drank wine was on a night that was really hot, everyone hopped the fence to the pool and had a great time. It was Lancers or Mateus. I know it was Jerry Cohen, Richie Keller, Jan Reiss and myself you let have swigs. Oof-ah!
