What a motley crew !...I'm glad to say as of now, that at least "six" of those campers will be at the reunion. P.S.... The backstop I'm told, still looks the same as it did back in '62.

Ok Augie...these are the guys in the "pic"... The two counselors are Bobby Hutt & Mike Hirsch. The back row from left is ?? then Jackie Silverman (black shirt) then Laurie Schleifer, the tall kid we called "Lurch", next to him is Larry Brown, then Barry Goldfarb. Front row from left is David Harris, Michael Geyer, Steve Kiviat, Mitch Kupfer, & ?? If you wait till Steve Kiviat signs on I'm sure he can fill in the 3 anonymous guys.

Hey Mitch , Augie and all you other lefties : Good thing that field had a short right field , left field was like a valley.
Does the word 'Clincher' ring a bell ?

Rob...There was nothing quite like the sound when you hit a "new clincher" on the screws !

Do you guys remember when we played Roundout Valley Little league in Hardball against a pitcher who was drafted in the second round. i think Me, Streeter and Schilling were grabbed as extras by this crew of guys and we really got whipped, almost none of us ever played hardball and the guy scared the crap out of me. I fouled one off to leftfield and was a hero!
PS who taught me to throw the screwball that got me through college leagues?

Bobby so true. We haden't touched a hardball bat all summer and had to face a pitch at 60 mph , half the size of a softball. They wiped the field with us.

Hey Jack...glad to see you're back. Once again your memory is amazing. I was always so competitive...Listen Jack, Kiv told me Hutt lives in Jersey...but I can't locate him...anyone help!!
After seeing that other pic of us and 17 other "senior boys" (Hey Rob it's time to post that one!)Maybe we can find Alan Bell...after all... the reason we were such a large group was Alan needed a job for the summer. Kiv told me that the other day.

It is so nice to see that you are all still alive and kicking. I still remember traveling to another bungalow colony to play a softball game. I had a no-hitter going into the last inning when the final out was a routine ground ball to Kenny Fine which he booted. Kenny I've never forgiven you. Only kidding. Great memories.
Stevie Kiviat had to have invented radar for his glove. That's the only explanation on how he could have caught the ball with his glove continuously held in front of his face. The glove was bigger than Stevie.

Hey , Steve was that the glove my DAD had before he 'converted' to Tennis? I think that glove had 6 fingers and the widest pocket ever made. You got more use out of it than he did. When Milton built a Tennis court the colony went 'multi-sport'.
On the weekend there was always a pack of luckys and a zippo on the bench.

Larry, nice to hear from you. Speaking of Mike Hersh, if not for me, most of you would not be alive today?
Mike thought nothing of pitching a softball to you guys at 100 MPH trying to kill you.
Well, kill might be too strong a word, but he certainly did try to intimidate all of you. I can't tell you how many times I had to hold him back.
Allen Bell was much kinder. Through Steve, I have followed some of you through your trials and tribulations. I can't tell you how many times I think back to those wonderful times at Makowsky's.
As I have been in thoroughbred racing for over a quarter of a century I don't know how many of you will remember the ill fated match race between the Kentucky Derby Winner Foolish Pleasure and the ill fated undefeated filly Ruffian.
They held a match race at Belmont Park, the last one held in America since that time.
Ruffian had the lead after a quarter of a mile and broke down and was euthanized.
To this day, she's the only horse buried at in the infield at Belmont Park at the finish line.
I watched that match race on TV in Stevie's bungalow. It is one of those events like JFK that we all know where we were when it happened.
Most of you were probably too young to know the impact of that event. A nation weeped and mourned her loss. There has never been another filly comparable to her. There has never been another summer like the ones we experienced at Makowsky's. We are a special breed who share a common bond. Hope to see you all at the reunion.
