Alright Folks , almost time to say 'Batter Up' , let's break out the glove oil and sharpen our spikes cause Spring Training is here. Anyone dare me to go to each Stadium?
Me and my Cousins are actually planning our trip this weekend. Looks like Philly and Baltimore. Anyhow, a more important issue needs attention! please read below: Guys & Gals, Incase you were unaware (Which I highly doubt) MLB has a proposed offer from DIRECT TV for removal of Extra Innings from Cable, Dish & etc... to Direct TV exclusively. Needless to say this is an utter disregard to us the fans. Please read the petiton I have started and send this to everyone you know that might be affected or would be in agreement of my sentiments. THANKS! This is the address to the site the petiton is on: WWW.gopetition.com/online/11081.html It has been up for a week and already has 85 signatures... A nice start, but I'm aiming high. I'd love to see it into the thousands.... PLEASE HELP SUPPORT THIS CAUSE!!!! I know I can count on all of you. Thanks, Ira
Any Fantasy fans out there? Mitch you gotta be in a league. Here's my question. My league has 3 keepers and it's pitcher heavy as we carry 8 pitchers to 16 position players on active list. I came in 3rd last year. Keeping Johan Santana and Carlos Beltran, was keeping Haliday but hate to give up Mauer as no catcher is close to this guy and Haliday did get injured in Sept. I pick 8th in first round
Yep over 15 yr's exp. 6 Championships..... Keep MAUER he is a stud at his position. Pitchers are very risky due to inj. what format do you use??? 5X5, H2H, Roto... ? The only reason you might want to keep a pitcher is because... In a pitcher heavy leauge, most owners keep Pitchers & that makes the pickings slim at the draft. Is it an auction draft, or ranking draft??? Anyhow, I am not very big on spending much on pitching as attested by my Championship roster from last year. Adam Laroche 60 Paul Konerko 330 Placido Polanco 20 David Wright 90 Kevin Youkillis 30 Jason Varitek 220 Mike Barrett 165 Orlando Cabrera 70 Carlos Beltran 630 Lance Berkman 225 Preston Wilson 175 Carl Crawford 205 Dave Roberts 30 Eric Byrnes 30 Jeff Francis 10 Mike Mussina 205 Dontrelle Willis 205 Aaron Harang 30 Brett Myers 40 Vincente Padilla 30 Brad Radke 85 Tim Hudson 330 Jason Isringhausen 260 Ryan Dempster 20 Takashi Saito 30 Roberto Hernandez 10 Brendan Donnelly 30 Joe Nelson 30 Mike Lieberthal 70 Miguel Tejada 380 Chad Tracy 20 Rich Aurilia 30 Joe Nathan 135 Ryan Freel 60 Craig Monroe 60 Augie, feel freeto e-mail me if you would like to discuss.
Mitch, I used to feel the same way. My friends were involved in fantasy Baseball for 3 yr's till they finally dragged me into it. And now I'm a Fantasy baseball Junkie... I'm addicted. I still love my METS, but I can control MAGOO'S CREW.... & after all, I am a control FREAK!
I started doing it around 1990 then quit after the strike then started up to team with my son and good friend the Viking who lives in San Diego. It is addictive. We won it all 4 years ago . But Ira does it the hardcore way. I'm in 5/5 roto league, no bidding or salary caps 16 active position players and 6 starters 2 closers. one drop add per week every sunday night, low team always gets first choice. We won it the year Dontrelle Willis was the super rookie ,we picked him up after about 4 starts and that put us over the top.Plus my whole team had career years. We've been real good with pitchers. Baseball isn't my favorite sport and roto brought back the love for me.
Rob, all this Hutt's mutts need to be put in there place, we would have beat them....as long as you can find Glenn Sylvan, but you better put some weight back on if you want to bat cleanup, throw in some knee ligaments a few back braces some pf flers for our outfielders and we are set
You got to be kidding? You just riled up our backstop Jackie...
Oh, I get it....this is the "Fantasy Baseball" thread, remember?
As a "charter member" of Hutt's Mutts....(by the way, Larry has the jersey's in production as we speak)...We accept!
Knowing Bobby the way I do...he probably has all the stats in his head from our team of 45 years ago...As I said before, I know nothing about "Fantasy Baseball"...You have to draft your players, right??
Is this the real life?
Augie...you are kidding right? Believe me Glen Sylvan won't make a difference ( Jo-Ann has told me he's definitely not in shape and most importantly could care less)
If you are not...then....
Steve - A new knee brace is in order
Jackie - you are the chef in charge of nutrition
Larry - No more Banana Bread...lol
Laurie - Remember, we use "gloves" not tennis rackets
Bobby - Stop horseing around ( Get back the Jack Bauer mentality)
As for me....
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide No escape from reality Open your eyes Look up to the skies and see...
Bismillah!
Nothing really matters to me....
(Rob, you know we sang that as a duet better than anyone in history)
I've been dreaming about this for YEARS!! In fact every time I have this dream I wake up in a cold sweat and just glad that I didn't wake up in some hospital!
But I'm in! I'd like to play short center field again. This time I'll play between the pitchers mound and second base.
Over the years I've had to get better knee braces. I now have one that starts at my head and goes down to my feet. I also have another one but Judy has to help me put it on. For this one she puts it on me while I'm still in bed and locks me into bed so I can't get out and into any trouble!!!
I'm so happy, these blogs were getting way to boring and mushy for me. You guys are easy to rile, your all living too far from the city to remember how to rank someone out. BTW what happened to my favorite councelor MUTT? How's it go: "I'm rubber and your glue anything you say bounces off me and sticks to YOU!!!" It would be a funny game. Does anyone actually play softball anymore. Last corporate league I was in was back in 89. We played against Ford model agency and i coached first base, with the models around i had to kick 3/4 guys out of my box every inning. But Jackie I'm sliding with my spikes up as long as i can get my butt down
Augie, when we do get to play the Makowsky "B" team, don't worry we will get Dave Baskin to run for you...Hutt,i'll leave my sneakers home. They won't even see your change up.
I think at this point I have an idea for a Makowski's Triatholon: We start at the camphouse with a Knock Hockey game then off to the pool for a game of Shuffleboard then to the luncheonette for pinball.
Okay Mitch I will respond although I have just sat back and loved the banter back and forth.
Augie, Rob, et al. I am sure that you had a very good team indeed although I never saw any of you play. I was in the Army when your time arrived.
It's very difficult to compare teams from different generations so I accept that if we had played one another back then, it would have proven a very exciting match.
We did beat the mens/our fathers teams back then but I also realize that we were in our primes. If our father's had been our age who knows as they may have kicked our butts all over the parking lots, but the truth be told, that never happened.
Al Markowitz symbolized our burning desire to beat the crap out of them. We laughed as we all knew to watch two of his fastballs blaze by, and then pound his change up into oblivion. We were all very good in our day.
As I read the back and forth on the Blog I can't help but laugh. Stevie wants to strap on the old knee brace and kick your butts.
Mitch is flipping out. Jackie & Larry are already working out getting ready to do battle one more time.
And somewhere I know Lenny is doing one arm push ups and telling his brother Laurie to ditch the tennis racket as we have to kick some butt one more time. LOL
My thought is that if we did play OLD GEEZER BALL, I can guarantee that the winner will be the medical staff as most of us will be wheeled right into surgery after the first inning! LOL
The truth is it really doesn't matter who wins today, because back then, we were all invincible. So let's leave it at that as in my book you are all winner's.
The team I captained was the finest bunch of men I have ever been fortunate enough to be associated with. They were, and still are, true warriors ready to protect one another and our honor.
And as our father's and Dave Baskin taught us, we always won and lost as a TEAM. We NEVER blamed others when things didn't turn out as we had hoped.
The thought of playing today at Banco Popular MAKOWSKYFIELD (today every ballpark needs a corporate sponsor) with the sun shining down on us (by SUN MAID RAISINS), and the smell of fresh cut grass by LAWN DOCTOR is all the memory I need. Am I 21st Century sports fan or what?
And if we did play back then, the final score would have been 1 - 0 as Downtown Larry Brown would have belted one into the left field woods in the bottom of the 21st inning. How's that for my Field of Dreams?
I could have hit one in the left field woods if i stood at 3rd base, maybe i could hit one out going the other way, but more likely Kup would have pulled one down the right field line. He certainly could have made my father jump away from the card table in front of my bungalow.
We were the luckiest kids in the whole world those summers. All the activities of a sleepaway camp without the crappy food . When we pulled into Makowsky's last summer and I looked up at the view we always had of the Mohonk ...truly an amazing hidaway. Oh BTW ,my crew loved and did look up to you ancient ones. You were great trendsetters
And Augie, you and your contempories carried on the torch well too. In all seriousness, putting the bravado aside, we are very proud of your generation too.
I only regret that I couldn't lead your group into battle in Color War as it would have felt wonderful for Phyllis to continue to beat me like a drum.
Augie, we would sweep all the sports contests and Hy would declare her the winner but it really didn't matter.
It was a preordained rite of summer as I guess that Hy knew I had broad shoulders and it didn't really bother me. I always competed to win but in the end she was announced the winner and I always felt happy for her.
No one was luckier than me to have the group of Senior Boys that I did. I am proud of every single one of them. They were, and are, the best of best.
And although many of us didn't know it back then, the teacher in Hy taught us about friendship, loyalty, and what is truly important in life, including always having a good sense of humor. Many people have come into my life along the way but none more important than Hy who taught us all life's lessons. He is one of a kind. Thank you Hy.
59-69 with some weekend visits up till 72 . Went from 5 year old Cub to something Bobby Hutt never did: won a color war as couselor Jody, my wife is Idol nut like you, really loved Jennifer and wanted her to win oscar to shove it in Simon's face. I watch it only when it's in the GONG Show stage. Gene Gene the dancing machine, now that's who should be the next A.I.
The girl Jordan Sparks is the daughter of Phillipi Sparks, who used to be a cornerback for the New York Football Giants. He was in the audience last night and I recognized him.
I knew he had to be somebody, they kept showing him. She also has an amazing voice. I expect to see Ellen on here and You Too Leslie, every elimination day.
Mitch you truly are the biggest Giant junkie, which girl was she ,the first or second young girl. i was forced to watch for last 2 nights and my favorite thing is Simon. I'm not into pop music and i think he really evaluates well and doesn't sugar coat, without him ...BORING
I remember those shows, not really the talent shows, but our big productions. I remember seeing the Movie OKLAHOMA the first time and thinking our show was sooooooo much better.
OK, maybe its old age, but I can't remember who played Sky Masterson and Sister Sarah. I remember Lenny and Hillary (Exter). Boy, wouldn't it be nice if we had Video cameras back then.
Anyone know what happened to those beautiful murals that Phyllis painted. (Better than Broadway).
Augie when I saw Kelli Pickler last week I thought she went from 20 to age 60 in one season. I couldn't believe how old her hair style was. Whoever her public relations person is should be fired on the spot.
Jodi they were all awful last night. As for Simon and crew advising Blake that he was creative with his HIP HOP RAP number in which they admitted they didn't understand a word he was saying, well, if this is what they are now advocating as original, AI may have finally jumped the shark? What are your thoughts? As for me I hated it!
Maybe they just need to have the ladies do their thing. You are right the guys sucked, but the talent that the women have makes up for it. Hopefully the girls will make the guys work a little harder next week.
I was happily not home last night and avoided the torture. Buy some Cassandra Wilson albums and hear real talent. There's more talent performing on Deal or noDeal then idol.
As far as the guys go...it doesn't really matter, because none of them should make the top 5 anyway, but WHO IS VOTING FOR SANJAYA??
Get this "person" off"....He must have every convenience store owner and their families voting for him every week! I personally go for my bathroom break everytime he is on stage.
Well, Mitch, looks like we are on the same page. What were those people thinking. Sabrina will probably have a record contract before they annouce a winner.
Maybe next year on the AARP network they will have a "Alta Cacca Idol" With all these old rock bands getting together again, there will be a need for more 50-60 yo rock stars. I am going to see the WHO sunday, the concert starts at 730 so that we can all be in bed before 10pm.
I do not know what Jerry Reese, the new GM of the Giants is doing. He is letting his own players go ( Pettigout, Feely, Arrington, Shiancoe, etc ) and he as of yet not signed any free agents while still $20 million under the cap. He has to get a complimentary running back to Jacobs ( Dominick Rhodes would be nice ) He needs a Left OT to protect Eli, He needs 2 linebackers, a cornerback, place kicker & back-up QB & TE. I'll say it again, what is Reese doing? The Giants are being decimated. I hope he has a plan, because this team is beginning to look like Reese's Pieces!
I saw the Who on Letterman a fews months back . They performed an acoustic set . Daltrey and Townsend only. They weren't too bad . Pete played a mean acoustic guitar , I almost wished he'd slam it into the amps like the old days. Guess guitars got to expensive to keep destroying.
Early rock torture for me. Camp Toledo summer71 trip to see the Who in Saratoga was rained out, supposed to be hilight of that one and only summer in camp
Well, I now intend to quit my job and follow the Who around the country. Roger is still hot. It was great last night. If that is what the new 60 is, then we are all in for a good time. Of course today I'm pooped.
and Jackie, Kishka is that stuffed thing we eat at weddings. I think it's Lakisha. You're so cute.
anyone see Amy Whinehouse on Letterman last night? I know 1235AM is a reach for this crew but she was really great. He gets some singers that really make Americal Idol into American Idle. Check her out!
Rob, once again, you are right. I have given up the idea. I had to go to sleep at 9 the night after. It's hard to be a rocker chick when you have to go to bed early. To tell you the truth it's sometimes hard to watch all of Idol. Oh well, another dream dies hard.
I have not been an avid AI watcher in the past. I am pretty sure that in past years even the best were not totally professional in the first weeks.
I can't believe that in past years there was much more talent than these amazing young female singers. Actually a few of them sounded better than DIANA.
Hey Jack, even though we're 'Bagel Challenged' down here it's not so bad. The only difference is that you are searching for the Snow shovel , I'm looking for the Sun tan oil. LOL
Now that Stern has thrown his 2 cents in it's now realty radio as well as TV. Where is Ed Sullivan when you need him most?
OK, WHERE ARE ALL MY FRIENDS. BEEN A FEW DAYS. I DON'T CARE IF WE TALK ABOUT IDOL, SPORTS, OR TREATMENTS FOR LIVER SPOTS, BUT I MISS SEEING YOU ALL HERE.
TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING AND THAT ONLY MEANS SUMMER IS CLOSE BY, MAYBE WE CAN SNEAK IN ANOTHER WEEKEND OF FUN AND MEMORIES. I'LL BE IN FLORIDA IN A FEW WEEKS AND PLAN ON SEEING SOME OF THE CONTINGENT DOWN THERE.
Dear Jodi, I'm here for you babe, talk with me walk with me. Andrea thought the pretty boy did well and deserved to go on, i was reading a book at the time, how could that geeky fat guy with the fro be ever considered an American Idol, maybe for clown school? Got to root for Phillipi Sparks gal but I'm voting for Joss Stone today or anyone that Letterman has on.She can really sing!
American Idol has become a farce. There are many factions that want it to fail miserably.
So, be prepared to have someone like Sanjaya, (a Michael Jackson clone without the talent)....go very far or possibly win this thing! Where is everyone? Rob, maybe you are going to have to set up a post entitled....Where's Waldo? or personalize it and call it....
Mitch, if Sanjaya ever won that would be the end of IDOL as we know it. Don't worry, there is talent out there.
Sanjaya will be like the Jerry Springer of Dancing w/the Stars. Good for a laugh, but eventually will have to go.
I heard from Ms. Weinshenker and she is well, i believe she will be visiting soon.
Getting ready to be a mommy again, I will be getting a new puppy in a few weeks. Hope labor is ok this time...HAHA I will be sending out announcements shortly after the adoption and we are registered at Petsmart.....
Happy Birthday Dan and Leslie. Jody you are a pro with dates and name your animal Milty!!! Mindy ,my son Matt will be in Copenhagen Business School for Spring semester 08, maybe you can find him a dutch gal to fulfill his dad's fantasies!
I won't know until I find him. I am going to Florida at the beginning of May and when I get back I will go to North Shore Animal League. I'll have Rob post his picture when I get him (or her).
Mindy, If someone asked me today if I'd like to 'hook-up' with a little Danish , I'd probably ask if I could have coffee with it! (LOL, sorry, could'nt help myself on that one)
Anyone remember the Danish girl,(or was she Swedish ?)Gunilla Knutson, the Nozema girl. She was HOT . When I saw her I could'nt wait to shave (too bad, I used an electric razor back them)
Mitch is right the blog is dying. let's getthis one back to baseball and run new one for idol or something. IRA where are you, who are you. My Roto draft went well and my main man Beltran is great. Top 3 pitchers are J Santana Halliday Harang

LARRY said...
I could have hit one in the left field woods if i stood at 3rd base, maybe i could hit one out going the other way, but more likely Kup would have pulled one down the right field line. He certainly could have made my father jump away from the card table in front of my bungalow.

You're right Larry , but very few things could make the men jump from that table once they sat down to play.
Weekend Warriors of their own.
Whenever Jack came out of the Bungalow with 2 cigars and a pen in his pocket I knew he was ready for battle.

OK...America got it wrong last night. The top five girls:
LaKisha - "Sheer force"
Stephanie - "Flawless"
Jordin - "Likeability"
Gina - "Rocker Girl"
Melinda - "Eargasms"
... Sabrina should be there, not Haley

Enjoy the show Jodi. Rock on

Where's Weinshenker?

Mitch, if Sanjaya ever won that would be the end of IDOL as we know it. Don't worry, there is talent out there.
Sanjaya will be like the Jerry Springer of Dancing w/the Stars. Good for a laugh, but eventually will have to go.
I heard from Ms. Weinshenker and she is well, i believe she will be visiting soon.
Getting ready to be a mommy again, I will be getting a new puppy in a few weeks. Hope labor is ok this time...HAHA I will be sending out announcements shortly after the adoption and we are registered at Petsmart.....
