Happy Birthday big Jack..Too many Birthdays have passed without all of us sharing them with you.It took one special weekend to change that.Have a great day with your family, we all love you..
Happy belated birthday to Jackie, Susie and whoever I missed. You might notice during football season I get a little Fanatically about that one blog. Jackie, whenever I go into a good bagel bakery i truly wish I never left the business and when i can tell they don't understand you have to truly boil a bagel first I want to show them how to do it. our families must go back a thousand years . Did your father ever take you to "The French Rumanian Restauarnt" on lower east side near union HQ? That was my father's" Steve your a man dinner" Still said it closed
Jackie...you mentioned Katz's Deli. My great memory of that place was...when I would deliver draperies to the Lower East Side on Grand Street for my dad, I would always make a stop at Katz's Deli for a snack. I would go up to the "counter guy" slip him a "buck" and he would feed me corned beef or pastrami while I'd wait for my sandwich. Sometimes he'd throw me a good sour pickle as well. Those were truly the good old days.
I still go to Katz's especially since 2nd Ave Deli closed. That's the place to meet. Can you see 50 makowskyites with the ticket in their hand "send a salami to your boy in the army"!! The French Rumanian is where the Union execs went for a good sit down meal, when my father took me there(he was president for about 4 yesrs) in say 72 they rolled out the carpet for us and wouldn't take a dime. Closest thing to it now is Sammy's(formally the stoop)
