Although it's been years since I've been here during autumn,
I still love it's beauty and serenity

Ellen & I often crave the Fall season , as it was our favorite.

We don't have these type of seasonal changes , I'll just be glad when hurricane season is over.

Beautiful, the leaves are changing more everyday. Some days there are more colors on my way home then there were when I went to work. I love being a country girl.

I miss you all. Summers over and just like when we were kids, the real world. Shorter days, never enough time to do all we want to, but all of you are never far from my thoughts. Boy, I'm such a mush.
Hard to stay in touch with everyone, hope that all who read are doing great. I am.........Love

The Fall is my favorite time of year. The photo of the Mohonk is beautiful.

Has anyone been back to Makowsky's as an adult? I would love to hear about your experience. I am thinking of taking my family there for a month, next summer.

Hi Shari, we were all there the Sunday of the reunion. All I can say is that it is like a time warp. Walking the grounds was a trip back to childhood.
Most of the people were new, but if you closed your eyes you could see the faces of our youth. I did not make it up there this year, but I'm guessing the old place will always make me feel like a kid again.

I heard that it is pretty reasonable for the summer. I would love to do for my daughter what my parents did for me. There is just nothing like it.

I wondered if there was still a camp, movies, bingo, etc.

MINDY: I talked about you today when I did my lesson on Van Gogh. I told my kindergarteners that I know someone who lives near the sunflower fields. They were quite impressed. :-)

Shari, thanks for mentioning me and I'm glad to hear that the kids were impressed. We just had visitors from Brooklyn, an old friend that we haven't seen in years and took them to Van Gogh's house. You know, a regular family lives there!
Seeing that picture of the Mohonk and the Fall colors brings, once again, such wonderful memories back to me. We do have seasonal changes here but you can't compare it with upstate NY.
My kids have great lives and lots of friends but they both admit they would have loved to have been part of the Makowsky's generation.
It's amazing, no matter what we go through in our lives, we still have the fantastic memories of Makowsky's.

I am heading up to High Falls this weekend. It should be beautiful with the leaves changing. It seems that this is a busy time for that area. There are hardly any rooms available. I hope to take a walk around Makowsky's. (Ilene, if you are there, I hope to run into you.) Does anyone remember how to get to the Old Swimming Hole? I tried to find it the last time I was there and I had no luck. It seemed so easy when we were kids, on foot. It was right after the candy store.

Friends went up to High Falls last weekend and they said that the Mohonk charges 21.00 (per person) JUST to drive in. We may still do it. I have NEVER been there after all of the years I spent at Makowsky's. I will try and send some photos to Mitch or Rob, if I get any good ones.

GOT THIS FROM THE GOOGLE HELP DESK

    Forgotten username and/or password

If you have forgotten your Google Account information, you can recover your Google Account login information by clicking on the '?' next to "Password" on the Blogger login page or you go to this page:

    https://www.google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd

    Password recovery email not received.

Check your Spam/Junk/Bulk Mail folder in case the message got mis-routed.
Try several email addresses, in case you didn't use your primary one for Blogger.
Try recovering your username instead of your password. You may have mis-remembered your username and be sending password recovery emails to another user. (We recommend trying this, even if you think you are sure of your username.)
    Forgotten email address.

If you can't remember what email address you used when you created your account, start by making a list of all your addresses (including old ones that you might have used when you signed up). Then enter each one by turn into the username recovery form. Most will give you an error, until you hit the one that you actually used, in which case you'll see a message indicating that your username has been sent.

I was in New Paltz this weekend, there is a very funky store, has great jewelry. Such a cool town. The leaves are changing, but not quite peaking yet. I remember when my Mom and Dad has a year round house on the colony. It was so lovely this time of year. Piles of leaves. So glad to see Mindy on here. I will e-mail you soon.

Hey Rob, who has a bachelor party in Europe. Remember the old days, friends, a few drinks, maybe a stripper, now you need a passport. Hope they have a great time.

Hello blog people! After not being able to get on the blog (once again), I followed your instructions Rob and (once again), I'm back.
Yes, Jodi, you're right, unbelievable. And your comment about needing a passport...very funny. Although, Amsterdam is the place to have a batchelors party. The red light district and a coffee shop (Joints + hash for sale) on every corner, where could you go wrong? It's a very tolerant city. I think they'll have a ball!!!

I miss you all............the holidays are coming really fast, still in the 70s in NY, weird weather.

Remember those really cold nights, even in August and now I'm wearing t-shirts and sandles the week before Halloween............I guess Al Gore has got something!!!!!!

I was just telling the girls at work about when Lil Bit ran away for the night. As some will remember, he found his way home not too much the worse for the wear. But what was even better was the clarity of the memory. There was a moment that if I closed my eyes I could see my mom, and Sylvia and Slim drinking champagne early one morning because the dog came home. Somedays the sound of the laughter that came from the kitchen when all the women were together is clearer than my last phone call.

Just thought I would share that with you all. A million years ago, but only yesterday............

Too bad we can't transfer memories to DVD. Jodi , yo comprendo what you felt / feel. It amazes me sometimes how we can recall somethings so remote , so forgotten , filed away somewhere deep in our 'brain-drive' , then ...BAM...

I did go up to High Falls a few weeks ago. It was the SO beautiful. We did find the Old Swimming Hole (Thanks Mitch!). We happened to run into Judy C. and her sister. That was so great. It was wonderful to see them both. There were several new owners there working hard and updating. Things looked really good. I did notice that Pauline's house was not there any more. I am not sure if there was a plan to rebuild it. As always, being at Makowsky's brings back such happy memories. What a beautiful place. I do have some great photos. I will try to send them to Mitch or Rob.

    Happy holidays to all!

The Ol' Swimming hole on Tow Path Road is on land owned by Dave Turner who is the Brother-In-Law of the late Marc Stern. Marc and family went to the big M from 70-84The Turner's always let everyone swim there as it was a local fixture since day 1. The water on a 95 degree day was 50. Everyone liked to slide down between the rocks which was a water slide of sorts. On any summer day, you will find lots of people there from local yokels to city slickers. Many stopped at Maltz's for some brews then headed over there. There was a path behind Le-Ri (The migrant workers bungalows) to the hole. You knew you were on track when you went down, past the downed phone poles, past the deer bones and down the slope. The walk back was tough. Everyone was soaked, the bugs and poison ivy! No ticks then! There are homes built off Tow Path that go for a good buck! There was an alfalfa field between the old Orchard Colony and Turner's that we used to hunt Woodchucks. Today, it has log cabin houses that sell for good money. In 1972, land was 200 an acre. Today, 150-250 k per acre to acre and a half. Who would have guessed that!
