I haven't been on this blog since tishabov! My luck! Ronnie and I are going out for our anniversary tonight and I have to see "crunch time"? Thanks Shilling. To all my fellow Campers and Counselors, I love and miss you all.P.S. Hi Hy
My 2 favorite people. So glad to see you are still out there.
I was watching "A league of our own" there is a song by Carol King "Now and Forever" That song always makes me think of all of you. The song speaks of times we shared that will always be a part of us. I think of all you often and hope that the holidays are healthy and happy. I will check in again throughout the holidays. Love you all Jodi
We wish ALL you Guys & Dolls a Happy Thanksgiving .
I was watching the Food channel describe what to do with leftovers. This British dude was making basically what my mother used to do...Turkey/stuffing croquets, fried of coarse...yum, Bobby Flay made fried turkey fingers in some kinda dijon sauce and the other mango salsa...yum
Hey Steve are you watching football yet with Calder ?
Wow, I haven't checked the blog in a while and I find the beginnings of a "Football Blog"....
First of all happy anniversary to Ronnie & Jackie and I hope many many more. I also want to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of my extended family.
I am very superstitious regarding my Giants so I will not comment other than to say keep it going Big Blue...You are making us all proud...and also to the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets...lets hope this continues so we can all start singing..."I'm leaving on a jet plane" (to Tampa on Feb. 1st) Wouldn't New York just love that?
Our high school put on a play, Thoroughly Modern Millie. I took my daughter to see it, last weekend. At three, the theme of slavery was over her head, but she enjoyed the singing and dancing.
The play made me think of a color war song, I only remember one line, "Everything today is thoroughly modern, except for Freida and her socks." That line made me think of Freida and smile.
Plaxico+loaded gun= NYSPL 265.02 illegal possession of a loaded handgun outside home or business, Class D Violent Felony, Criminal Poss of Firearm, 3rd. Mandatory jail sentence of 1 year regardless of any priors or clean record.
Hi out there in blog land! Hope all the Makowskys alums had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!
We are, we are the Crimson Red Stars........we can, we can?
Florida is now buzzing with Gator fever. College sports is taken so seriously here. I'm a parent of both a Gator & Seminole sons, so i get the best of both. Amazing rivalry. The towns literally close down during football season. People , buses ,RVs, etc. converge upon these college towns like wagon trains headed out west. It's wild. The athletic programs, facilities and 'sports machine' they create is incredible.
The Jets are starting their usual fall from grace and the Giants showed that they can crap-out too. Although the Giants won the divvy, it will be a long road ahead.
Being a Hofstra grad, football was never a huge sport. Besides; who wants to tailgate in Hempstead unless they are in a Bradley or Abrams Tank or at minimum, an up-armored Humvee!!!!!!
I would have gone to Hofstra if I had stayed in NY. Instead, I ended up at Eastern Kentucky University. They were conference champs 3 out of the 4 years I attended (smaller school than either of your Florida team Storch). I never missed a home game..............GO STEELERS!
Just checked in to see if you guys are still there. Crunch time means getting into the football playoffs. The G Men are doing just fine.
As for the JETS its starting to look like JETS stands for Just End The Season.
I have to hand it to Coach Manginious for turning Brett Favre into the second coming of Chad. Wouldn't it be sweet if Chad marches into Giant Stadium on the last day of the season and beats the JETS. Now that would be the ultimate insult to JET fans.
For the record, Chad has always been the consummate professional and a stand up guy. I would love to know what Brett thinks of Mangini? It can't be much with the dump off passes he has him throwing. Only the incompetence of the JET management and coaching staff could turn a Hall of Famer into a Pee Wee QB.
Ellen is a Hofstra Grad. We were got married right before her senior year, so back then they were really considered 'long Islands football team', even though they were mediocre, even so it was still fun to watch them play. Anyway the Jets practiced there too so that was a plus.
We were only 20 back then , I was working by day , played at Hofstra by night...Ellen had to study , whats a 20 yr old 'workin man' supposed to do to do ? I was sorta like the 'Jewish' BUD- from Urban Cowboy but without the mechanical Bull and of course ...married LOL Yo Kup remember The Outlaws at the Rathskeller? My ears are still buzzing..@#$%&
It was "Green Grass and High Tides" at the Rathskeller ( at least a 15 minute jam...right?)
Ok...this was intended to be a football blog. I know Jodi said to me "Mitch...I was expecting some football talk"...OK, I'm ready, so here goes.
What we found out is that the defending Super Bowl champions are beatable.
They are beatable at home.
They are beatable in the division.
But at 11-2, the Giants are no less of a Super Bowl favorite now than they were a month ago. (I really do believe that)
The Eagles played better than the Gmen last week...that's it!
But like the Giants' Monday night loss to the lowly Cleveland Browns in October, you can write this one off as an off-day by the Giants, and they don't have many of those, it was only their second loss in the last 17 games.
It was a must-win game for the Eagles This was their Super Bowl.
Not so for the Giants.
Philadelphia needed to upset the Giants to keep its playoff hopes alive. At 7-5-1, the Eagles remain in the mix.
At 8-5, the Cowboys have a half-game lead on the Eagles. Philly closes the season at home against the Cowboys. The Cowboys must first play the Giants & Ravens. The Eagles play the Cleveland Browns and the fading Washington Redskins.
So, you could say that the Cowboys are more desperate than our Giants. Yes, we don't have Jacobs. and yes we don't have Plax. But I contend that the 'Boys are about to self destruct. There is alot of player unrest due to who else? T.O. ("that's my quarterback") They are really banged up in the secondary as well. That is where Eli will go tomorrow as I'm sure the 'Boys will put 8 in the box to stop the run game. For some reason I sense a new hero tomorrow that seems to be what the Giants are about these days....maybe Danny Ware?
If we do lose it won't be catastrophic, (but we all want to step on the Cowgirls' necks and end their season) because next week against Carolina will be the big one!
But these wild-card berths are for teams such as the Cowboys, Eagles and Falcons to sort out.
The Giants have the rest of the month to straighten themselves out.
Where have all the bloggers gone? Long time passing... Where have all the campers gone? Long time ago... Where have all our old friends gone? Busy with holiday shopping everyone I hope you all return I hope you all return.
Rob: The Hofstra Rat was the frat and sorority hangout during the day. I can say that it was a fun place to hang, sort of like the luncheonette is to Makowsky's. Lousy food, not a good egg cream to be had, but it was fun. When I got there, Hofstra had opened up Hofstra USA as the campus watering hole. It was more like one of the hangars that sat on Mitchel Field. Empty and cold!
Basketball may have a better season than football-we shall see.
The campus has been built up on both sides of the Turnpike that it now has its own zip code. They are opening a medical school next year too. Somethings never change, like the bungalows. Hofstra has- big time.
My heart will always be with the Giants , but on the Flipside I'm a Dolfan too. I like Chad and he's been embraced well by the press and fan base. He's gunnin for the Jets tomorrow.
Looks my post-season seat on the couch is already reserved.
You couldn't think up a worse scenario for the free-falling Jets than to be eliminated from playoff competition by the quarterback they banished in favor of Favre. Pennington doesn't need the extra motivation with the AFC East on the line and he's been playing with confidence. If momentum is to decide this, it's over. The Dolphins have won four straight and eight of nine while the Jets have gone 1-3 since their momentous win in Tennessee. They've beaten the Dolphins five straight times, so that's a plus, but this is obviously a different Miami team. The fragile Jets are in desperate need of a quick start.
Chad has been waiting all season for this game, and he just has to be drooling.
DOLPHINS win 28-24.
I get to relax this last week of the season. Go Big Blue!
This was intended to be a football thread so here is my take on the New York Football Giants.
Yeah, I wanted to play Arizona but what Giants' fan didn't? This is the way it is supposed to be.
The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls and made 19 appearances, more than any other division. It's a division that has a rich history of suffocating, physical defense, outstanding running backs and elite coaches.
The Giants last played the Eagles in Week 14 and lost their only home game of the season.
BTW, Week 14 was Plax gun control week. I also remember that W14 game was very windy and the Eagles won the toss and took the wind. We were moving the ball quite easily on that opening drive down the field anyway when Gilbride (the OC) called a "reverse" with Mario Manningham that killed the drive. Brandon Jacobs hurt his knee and then yada, yada yada.
Payback will be a bitch....time for some "Roasted Eagle" on Sunday night for dinner!!!!
BTW, Of those 11 Super Bowl victories by the NFC East...do you know how many of them have been earned by Philly?....
I have not blogged here because I am still in the 5 stages of grief:
1) Denial- I cannot believe the Giants lost and are out of the playoffs. What happened?! Was this a bad dream? Someone wake me up from this bad dream and tell me it wasn't real.
2) Anger- That Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride. I hate him. I call him Kevin "Killdrive"...why? because all he does is kill drives!
3) Bargaining- If I promise to be good and not send a letter bomb to Kevin Killdrive, will the Giants be nice enough to release him from his contract? Or better yet, maybe Oakland can hire him as their head Coach.
4) Depression- Sorry, not there yet. In a couple of days when I have to deal with the thought that the Eagles and Cardinals are playing for the NFC Championship, I will start to get nauseous and depressed.
5) Acceptance- The Giants were given plenty of advanced warning about what they needed to do back in Week 14 in order to win. They did not take advantage of their enormous opportunity and they have to learn from this if they want to win next season. Losing guys like Strahan, Umenyiora and Burress are body blows that are hard to come back from, so let's regroup for the draft and win it all in next season.
If any of you are still reading this then thank you for your time. Also, please accept my apologies. This is actually good for me and part of the recovery process.
But, let me say this:
Eli Manning has a "free pass for life." He won a Super Bowl for me last year. So I will not serve him up and skewer the guy. I have no animosity or anger at #10. "It was what it was" for him. He played very poorly.
Having said that, Eli needs to learn how to pass effectively in the wind come December & January in North Jersey, otherwise the Giants will never have a home field advantage. My solution is to have Phil Simms tutor Eli and show him the ropes.
On a personal note, thank you Jackie. Your text message to me 45 minutes after the game made me laugh.
Giant's season was more like 'Peyton Place' than 'Eli Place'.
We'll watch the Super Bowl , have some fun and get ready for pitchers and catchers to report to camp. My sons already got their tickets for a Yankee game in Tampa.
I haven't been on in a while, just really busy at work. Miss you all and hope your holidays were great ones. Hoping all of you have a Happy and Healthy New Year.
FYI, Facebook has a Makowsky's page. I don't, but Shari does.
Karen Brotman got in touch with Shari on Facebook. (one of the twins).
Congrats Mona on your Steelers. The game was just so-so until the 4th Qtr. Arizona gave them a tougher time than expected, and I thought the Steelers were lucky to win...but they made the plays down the stretch and they deserved to win. So Mona...wave your yellow "terrible towel" proudly & enjoy your year long reign as I did last year with Big Blue.
On a personal note, my son threw a great Super Bowl party last night and it was a "gastronomical delight."....I won the 3rd Qtr in the pool so I was happy.
The Boss was great and I enjoyed the halftime show. I was pleasantly surprised (Rob) when Bruce opened with "Tenth Avenue Freezeout" one of my faves. Bruce can still move and finished his 12 minutes with "Glory Days" which I fully expected.
Mitch, I think Bruce looks better now than he ever has. He was suprisingly awesome. I'm not a big Boss fan. I would have had a party myself but we got hit with a major ice storm last week (I'm in Kentucky) and I was out of power most of the week. One of my sisters is still out. We are supposed to get 3 inches of snow today......which is nothing to a New Yorker but could cripple this state after the ice....which was almost fully melted in some areas. It was very pretty though.
Hey Folks , its been a long tough football season. Time for me to hit the Locker and training room, maybe a whirlpool bath and massage.... My butt hurts... from sitting too much..LOL.
Look for a new posting coming soon .
The way to get your photo on :
Go into your profile/account settings and look for the option to upload a photo/pix. Just remember to keep tho file size smaller, you can always change it or remove it.
Mona, I think that Mitch gave directions, to putting your photo. up, a few posts ago. Check back and see. If you can't find it, I can try and give you a hand. He was awesome at getting me there! What happened to those photos?
Jodi, I just put up a Facebook page to spy on Lori's daughter at college.:-) Lori and I cooked up this scheme like Lucy and Ethel. Now, I am into it. I need to learn more. I did see Mindy and Shari! I am glad that we DID not have Facebook when we were younger! I would not want my teenage antics out there for all to see! I will check out the Makowsky's page. Thanks!

Rob invited me on Facebook just the other day. It is addicting, but it could be a useful tool. Just set up your preferences correctly and you'll be fine.
I will "NOT" put this on Facebook...
I have been given the go ahead, so all of you Makowskyites that visit this site...there is some wonderful news....
Larry Brown is going to be a Grandfather. His daughter Lisa is pregnant.

The Dolphins did have a chance to win, too many key turnovers. They had a remarkable season though , led by Chad (With Big Bill watching of course)

Maybe Eli & Peyton should play catch some more.
Giant's season was more like 'Peyton Place' than 'Eli Place'.
We'll watch the Super Bowl , have some fun and get ready for pitchers and catchers to report to camp. My sons already got their tickets for a Yankee game in Tampa.

Hi All,
I haven't been on in a while, just really busy at work. Miss you all and hope your holidays were great ones. Hoping all of you have a Happy and Healthy New Year.
FYI, Facebook has a Makowsky's page. I don't, but Shari does.
Karen Brotman got in touch with Shari on Facebook. (one of the twins).
Be back soon :)
