I never remember seeing ducks or geese either when we were there. Can you imagine all of us coming back from the lake or pool into the bungalows if there were?...lol
I took that shot at the end of winter in 2006. I had not been to the colony in 30 years prior to that and thought what a beautiful place Makowsky's was in the winter time. Walking around the colony and seeing White Rock with the barren trees just made me think of how we all never really could appreciate the colony at that time of year.
I believe these fowl to be from the species 'Sno-Ducs' . Each year they migrate to an from Florida to Makowskys. We see them all the time here. "what could be bad" LOL
BTW- Is the white rock sinking or is it my eyes deceive me?
Ah; White Rock. Oh the bad things I did there! lol. Back then it seemed higher than it is now. Global warming or no pumpout for the pool water? Never saw ducks or geese. Just a few hawks and some crows with lots of dragonflies. At night it was a different story...
HighFalls/Accord/Alligerville/CloveValley weather: Sunny, windy and frigid today with a high of 5. Wind chill is -20. Bundle up! Tomorrow; chance of snow with a winter weather advisory in effect. Tonight, dark and continued dark until morning with a low of -5! Fire up those old Slattery stoves in the bungalows! (Milton, may he rest in peace, had apopleptic fits from all the propane we used when we used the stoves for heat!)
Can anyone say summer? Hello pool? Swimming hole? I've been saving my quarters for pinball and the jukebox all winter!
Even in the cold, it is still a great place to be and that is MAKOWSKY'S.
Hi everyone... I have been on a few times reading all the posts & enjoy reading stories that bring me back to my childhood. What A great time it was... With all the changes over the past few years it has become even more meaningful since it is my family as well as friends that are talked about. There are so many responses I want to make to make to so many posts that I would ramble on too much... With that said I'll just say this... Steve & Judy I wish Midge & Alex the best... I consider them as family. As far as my Dad, Who I miss Soooooo much, I am proud to say that I can Make the Tuna Fish! The Egg creams I still manage to screw up now & then but I made the tuna for my wife recently & she loved it! One more thing... We have a new addition to our family... We adopted our daughter Shelby Madison on Dec 28th... She was born X-Mas eve 6pds. 11oz. 19inches. I hope everyone is doing well & thank you so much for keeping the memories going. Mitch, Rob let me know how to add a picture to this blog please, Thanks again.

Hi, people of the past... This is Robert Axelrod here.. I attended Makowsky's with my brother Bruce from 1962-1964, and was probably the best second baseman in camp; haha.
As a grown up computer geek, I came across your blog during a google search and thought I would pop in and say hello... How could I resist magic names such as Jackie Silverman and Joanne Sylvan!.. I also loved the youtube videos of the reunion.. Best wishes to all...
