OK, so maybe I'm the only one who still reads the blog. Each time I check in I hope that more of my family will be here, but alas I am alone.
OK, so we may not be the closest family, we may not talk, or write, or even e-mail, but we share so much. So for all the shared moments, the love, the laughter and a lifetime of memories I wish you all a Happy Holiday and A Healthy and Happy NEW YEAR.
Hi, I am here - I must admit, I don't check as often as I should, but since the reunion, I now know we are all here for each other - that's the cool and comforting part of all of this. Enjoy the rest of the holidays everyone. :-)
Jodi and others I check in and read your comments. It is still nice to see that we all think of the wonderful time our parents provided us way back when. Makowsky's was, and will always be, that mythical place (except that it was real) where we always had a smile on our face and all our dreams came true. Come to think of it we didn't have a care in the world as everyday was pure magic.
Stevie it was so nice speaking with you for about three hours the other night. I hope Judy that he sent you my love?
Speaking of Stevie, guys is it true that Stevie "juiced up" taking HGH? How else can we explain him growing in one year from 4 foot Tiny Tim to hitting 62 homeruns the next season. OK so it was kickball but he still hit em over the fence.
The only HGH Steve ever took was: "Hamburgers, Gluten, & Herring"
In fact, one of those 62 Kickball homeruns was "tainted"
He kicked one through the door and it went through Alan Pearlman's "5 hole" and rolled all the way to Sylvan's bungalow. That's why Maris' record officially stood at 61 for all these years.....lol
I think that the holidays may just take us in a different direction... As always, the Makowsky's spirit is in all of our hearts.
From what I have read, there are a few who have the important role of being the "glue" that holds us all together. Jodi, you, Rob and Mitch are "super glue". Thank you for all that you do to keep us all together.
Bobby, the truth is that I never took HGH. (I did take testosterone by the gallons that I mixed with cool-aid.)
In all seriousness. Judy and I are the last of the origianl Makowskyites to bid our fond farewell. This past fall Midge and Alex moved to the Jewish Home in Rockleigh NJ. they became so frail that we were afraid that they couldn't take care of themselves especially during the hard winters.
We will still continue our visits to see Sandy< Joyce and Alan and their families and our other friends. If any of you want to meet us, Just let us know.
Each year Judy and I visit the Mohonk as day visitors just to relax and climb the paths to take in all of the beauty up there. We will continue to do this.
The reunion seems to me like it happened just yesterday. I brought back to us so many of our friends that we now speak with often. We are ALL so fortunate to have grown up in such an inspiring place that natured us and brought to us each other.
Right now I will take a nap and dream of the smells that came from the bagels in Lou Silverman's car when he came up on weekends.
Jodi, you're too funny. Mitch gave me the "heads up" to check out the blog again. I stopped only because it was very frustrating to read all of the comments and not being able to respond. Every time I would try to post, I would get those crazy crooked letters to type in over and over and over 'till my eyes were crossed. Faith, you're not alone. You inspired me. Anyway, here I go again. Kiv, Battle used to smell those bagels when my dad reached the top of the Mohonk. Jealous? Hope you had a good nap. O.K. Here goes. Rob, if I get those crooked letters again, you'll hear me all the way down in Fla.
It takes so little to make me happy. Loved seeing you all here this week. Sometimes I wonder why this means so much to me. I think maybe it's the link to my mom, the vivid memories of which you are all a part. That's some of it, but not all. Whatever it is, I love you all and once again wish you the Happiest and Healthiest New Year......2008!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, the onion rolls - forgot about those, yum - it's so unbelievable how we all have these little memories that trigger an experience for all of us .... that's why makowsky's is makowsky's! Happy HEALTHY New Year to everyone!! Love, Nona
My sister and I felt so grown up when our mom would let us walk to the grocery and get a black and white or an onion roll. We each had a little bit of change. There was nothing like the smell of that grocery!
I think it refers to a friendship between childhood friends who have parted and met again. So for the sake of our long friendship, we should join hands and share a drink together in the spirit of good will. We should not forget our old friends and celebrate reunion with them.
So please, to all my extended family.. my wish to you all is to have a safe happy & healthy New Year and I certainly will raise a glass in your honor (actually probably more than a few) to all of you tonight.
Thank you Jodi, I forgot that the blog still means so much to so many people. It's been too long since the last time I wrote to all my old friends.Happy New Year to everyone out there who still blogs on.We can never forget what we did to bring all of us back together, so lets try hard to keep it strong through 2008
Well we finally had our cold spell here in Sofla. It went down to the 40s - 50s one night and lasted about 2 days. Luckily I saved some of my old sweatshirts. (and they still fit)
Well today it feels like So FL here. 60+ and beautiful. If you guys are anything like my sister, you have no more blood and shiver at 50. Rob, I will be down in a few and will call before I come down........

Didn't Rob tell you? Anytime you see those crooked letters...all you have to do is shout at the top of your lungs....
"GIVE A YELL, GIVE A YELL" and magically they disappear and you're in....lol

Next time you get crooked letters, re-adjust your glasses...lol
Regarding bread products , I've never , ever been able to replace the taste of kaiser or onion rolls from the Makowskys 'superette'.
AAHH, give me a breakstone(lightly salted') buttered roll anytime...Amazing how we crave those simple icons from the Colony.

Auld Lang Syne
NOUN:
The times gone past; the good old days.
Mitch, I like your definition better.
Here's to all of you and to a happy and healthy New Year for all who were part of the times gone past; the good old days.
